So we are still working hard on our total money makeover...and one thing we need to do is "find" extra money in our budget to put towards eliminating debt. Any ideas on things we can do to tighten our belts...or ways to raise extra cash quickly? We are trying to get our emergency fund back up after paying tuition and my trip to California for my Grandma's funeral. I want to do it fast so we can start tackling debt again and stay motivated.
Thoughts?

Sign-up for Mint.com. It is a free, safe on-line money management website. I've been using it for almost 2 years and love it. My favorite part is categorizing my transactions (i.e. groceries, gas, clothing, etc) and realizing how much I spend on these categories a month. I've made monthly goals to trim my gas or grocery spending by $10-$20 and have found that has provided "extra cash."
A friend of mine thought she was spending about $100 a month on coffee since she spends about $3 a day every day of the month. She signed up for Mint.com and found out she was actually spending $300 a month on coffee. Those little transactions add up.
If I remember correctly, when you start, it pulls your information for the past 60 days so you can get an idea of what your spending has been. All you have to do is categorize your transactions how you like (which can take some time at first) and then set-up budgets. Mint will even send you text or e-mails when you are getting close to your budgeted amount.
A finance professor one taught me that it is 100% easier to save $1 as opposed to making/earning $1 and I have found that to be true in my own life.
Sounds like you aren't paying for cable, so that's one great step. I second mint.com. That's a great website and way to view everything in one glance. Stop eating out, even fast food will save you lots of money. Eating vegetarian dishes with more beans as a substitute will save you money...just be sure to soak and cook your own beans. Not just open up a can.
We add our stamp of approval for mint.com. Take out other things that aren't necessities--hair dying, fingernails, even haircuts-cut Nathan's hair or go every 6-8 weeks, I found someone in our stake that cuts mine. I'm not a coupon person but there is another option. Another thing is evaluate your cell phone plans--Do we really need all those minutes or all those text messages? Do we need that data plan? Look at everything for which you have a monthly bill and evaluate what your needs really are.
I know your not a big cook but cooking from scratch is a lot cheaper and often a lot healthier.
Good Luck.
I plan out two weeks worth of meals and then go shopping for what is planned. It cut our grocery bill alot because you get exactly what you need for the meals and it doesn't get wasted. The two weeks makes for a slightly bigger initial bill per shopping session, but the overall month grocery bill is smaller.
I totally want you to post more about your money makeover! I find it interesting, and encouraging:)
Is this the Dave Ramsey's Money make over? I am just finishing the book and can't wait to get started;) Good luck.
